SEPtA r5 Mainline carmel interlocking

Southeastern Pennsylvania transportation Authority’s (SEPtA) r5 rail line,
which services Philadelphia’s suburbs, carries over 5 million passengers a
year. To improve service along this line and reduce the number of delays,
SEP TA had replaced the track and signals, but the overhead catenary system
at Carmel Interlocking remained. In preparation for renewal of the system,
Nave Newell was commissioned to make a detailed survey of rail facilities for
a distance of 1 mile around the Carmel Interlocking.
Conventional survey techniques were costly and insufficient for this type of
electrification and traction design. To overcome this challenge, Nave Newell
deployed high-definition survey equipment to reduce the cost and improve
the level of project detail. Laser scans from off-track positions limited service
disruptions and reduced the impact on SEP TA revenue. The project team’s use
of MicroStation, Bentley Rail Track (InRail), and Bentley Cloud Worx enabled
on-time delivery to the transportation authority with exceptional detail.

Feasibility Study for a New Rail Link (Standard Gauge) Between Dakar and Ziguinchor via Tambacounda
Dakar and Ziguinchor, Senegal
the casamance region of southern Senegal is separated from the capital
Dakar by the country of Gambia. The only means of reaching the capital is a
900-kilometer road around the north of Gambia. RITES was commissioned to
study options for a new rail link to this region and deliver it in a tight timetable
of four months.
Using Bentley Rail software, RITES generated a triangulation model to
study the topography and find suitable station locations on the more than
1,000-kilometer line. The team used the same model for horizontal and vertical
alignment design and calculated earthwork quantities and cost estimates
for report submissions. The efficiency of the 3D modeling technology helped
RI TES deliver the design on time.
