Construction of China-Singapore Suzhou Industrial Park’s Fundamental Geographical Information System suzhou unimap software co., Ltd
Suzhou Industrial Park is a major joint-venture project
between China and Singapore. Located in east of Suzhou
and encompassing 288 square kilometers, Suzhou Unimap
Software needed to upgrade its GIS. Using MicroStation
PowerDraft, MicroStation GeoGraphics, Bentley Descartes,
and Project Wise, the firm now has a unified fundamental
geographical data platform.
The urban-planning GIS database includes road networks,
river ways, place names, land use, buildings, underground
pipelines, and a population, social, and economic geography
database. The GIS features geographical information collection,
dynamic updating, database establishment, distribution service
management, and a technical support system, which can
promote relevant industries’ information development and
provide a complete geographical data framework for “digital
industrial park” and government use.

Sydney Ports Corporation’s major navigation and shipping
responsibilities in Australia’s Sydney harbour are outlined in
its Port Safety Operating License (PSOL) issued by the state
government. Their goal is to ensure shipping operations within
the ports are undertaken with the highest level of safety by
regularly mapping the harbor. The maps show accurate depth
soundings, bathometric contouring, symbolized navigation
aids and the location of objects and submarine cables, while
showing specific land features easily identified by pilots.
To this end, hydrographic surveys are undertaken using global
positioning technology. Recorded depths and associated
coordinates are downloaded from the onboard echo sounder
into MicroStation V8. The soundings data is then imported into
InRoads to create surface models and bathometric contours
for mapping purposes. Specific cross section and longitudinal
profiles of berthing areas are created, along with calculation
of required dredging volumes.
