GIS at Every Desktop Realized Through MLS city of alpena
The engineering department of Alpena, Michigan, had
a staff of five who designed with MicroStation and another
73 staff and two subcontractors who needed access
to all of this information. Since the city couldn’t afford 78
MicroStation licenses, it at first used Bentley View to share
information. however, as staff became familiar with the
software, more wanted the ability to change and update
the elements they viewed.
By subscribing to Bentley’s Municipal License Subscription
program (MLS), the city can now provide a comprehensive
portfolio of full-featured GIS software to everyone’s desktop,
offering greater efficiency in a variety of disciplines. For example,
the City Assessor’s Office now has its own MicroStation and
MicroStation GeoGraphics licenses that give it full access
to add parcels, update numbers, change addresses, adjust
building layouts, and modify other attributes of city properties.
Standardized Urban Road Design Application for City of Paris mairie de paris
FINALIST
While upgrading to MicroStation V8, the design department
for urban roads in the city of Paris — which includes 75 designers
distributed over 10 sites — decided to make the best use of the
new capabilities of the soft ware to harmonize design methods
and renderings. Goals included facilitating design improvements, reducing production times, and giving consistency to
the documents created by various departments.
To date, productivity gains have been significant. For example,
extraction, initialization, and plot preparation, which used to
take a few hours to complete, are now done in a matter of
minutes and with greater accuracy. In addition, design quality
has been enhanced, due in part to more alternative designs
being studied.
