civiL road infrastructure
Multi-Sector Project for Rehabilitation of Infrastructure in Jammu and Kashmir, India
span consultants pvt Ltd
This project involved the design of a 300-kilometer road
network in the Srinagar region of Jammu and Kashmir in
northern India. At 1,600 meters above sea level, the terrain
of this region, which shares a border with Pakistan and
China, is mainly hilly, comprised of sharp curves, hair-pin
bends, and steep gradients.
Due to severe site constraints and the requirement to have
an optimized design, there are frequent changes in the
alignment design, dramatically increasing the quantum of
work. Bentley’s MX solutions provided precise digital terrain
and 3D modeling, minimizing the number of site visits required
to this geographically challenging area. In addition, 3D
visualization improved sight distance analysis and setback
distance, which can be very helpful when designing roads
in such complex and hilly terrains. Use of the software shaved
eight months from the project schedule.
S.S. 106 Jonica Megalotto 8 ste srL
S.S. 106 Jonica, the main road connecting the cities of
Reggio Calabria and Taranto in Italy, is 490 kilometers long.
Megalotto 8 is 53 kilometers long and connects the cities of
Mandatoriccio and Sibari. Modernizing these roads will
improve the overall quality of the roadway system in this
area, relieve traffic congestion, and shorten travel times.
STE used Bentley MX solutions to verify all road design rules,
including production of a speed diagram, control of the plan
and vertical congruence, and a full 3D visibility analysis
based on the 3D geometry of the design and expected
operational speeds. STE also used the software to enable
collaborative workflows and guarantee a fully coordinated
and integrated design. Spatial coordination and complete
understanding of the interface between the designed roads
and existing buildings and services was analyzed in detail.
