SH20 Waterview Connection connell Wagner pty Ltd
The Waterview Connection Project is a major motorway that
will form part of the Western Ring Route, an alternative route
to State highway 1 linking North Shore, Waitakere, Auckland,
and Manukau cities in New zealand. A significant constraint
was the requirement that it pass through an established residential area where no corridor currently exists. The driven
tunnel concept was developed in order to minimize property
cost and adverse surface disruptions in both social and
environmental terms.

MXROAD provided geometric design, option investigation,
base drawing development, and 3D visualization. Its interoperability with other software and ability to make major
changes without major rework gave it significant productivity
advantages, which was particularly important given the
extremely tight timeframes demanded by the project.
The U.S. 24 project is a joint venture between the Indiana
Department of Transportation (INDOT) and the Ohio
Department of Transportation (ODOT). The existing U.S. 24
is a two-lane road that suffers from congestion and safety-
related issues due to the inability to accommodate current
traffic demand. The proposed road will follow a new terrain
alignment, be a divided highway of interstate quality, and
involve the construction of seven new bridges. Its design
needed to limit environmental impact, control stormwater
runoff, and create new wetlands to compensate for impacted
wetlands.
Bentley’s MXROAD allowed the engineers to integrate the
very complex design into the environment and allowed fast
investigation of design alternatives. In addition, its interoperability with other software enabled INDOT and ODOT
to easily collaborate on the project. This limited downtime,
minimized mistakes, and kept the project on schedule.
