Buckley AFB Army Aviation Support Facility ch2m hiLL
The Colorado Army National Guard needed to expand its
campus on Buckley Air Force Base. Ch2M hILL designed a
functionally efficient, low-maintenance, energy-efficient helicopter operations and maintenance facility that serves as the
architectural centerpiece for the Army’s expanding campus.
The entire project, which includes two aircraft storage buildings
and airfield improvements, totaled approximately $37 million.
Bentley’s BIM solutions offered the project teams the
opportunity for interference checks while the structure and
equipment locations were being laid out. In addition, the
modeled elements were used in structural analysis programs
to evaluate structural performance. Moreover, all disciplines
had the flexibility to simultaneously contribute to the model
and had access to simultaneous updates of each other’s
work — all of which was instrumental in design coordination
and consistency.
RAAF Richmond 36/37 Squadron Headquarters Bligh voller nield pty Ltd
Located to the northwest of Sydney, RAAF is the second oldest
air force base in Australia. The new headquarters for the 36
and 37 Squadrons will consist of two main wings with a third
smaller wing that completes a U shape and contains stores
and an external plant room. The three wings combine to form
a landscaped courtyard providing outdoor recreational space.
MicroStation and Bentley Architecture provided the best fit for
Bligh Voller Nield’s project because it allowed the firm to work
in 2D and 3D environments without the need to change
software; leverage other types of software through the interoperability of Bentley software with other file formats; span
projects over multiple offices through the use of federated data;
and better manage documentation processes and outputs
through the use of enforceable CAD standards.
