Major Hotel Project hKr architects
The challenge of this major hotel project in the suburbs of
Dublin City, Ireland, was to design a landmark building in a
prominent site on one of the busiest intersections in the country.
The redevelopment consists of demolition to the rear of the
hotel, retention of the remaining hotel and facilities, and
construction of a new hotel.
The designer utilized the rendering capabilities of MicroStation
to produce multiple images, photomatching the building into
its real-world location. Visualizing how the new building will
interact with the existing environment was a key part of the
planning process. The scale of the development needed to
be presented in the correct context to the surrounding existing
buildings, and without the visualizations it would have been
impossible to adequately present the information to the planners.

An important element in the study is the creation of a university
atrium, which is connected to all of the school’s faculties and
the library by a series of pedestrian walkways. The atrium is
designed as an area for the relaxation, meditation, and socializing of students and faculty. The use of MicroStation 3D modeling and visualization capabilities allowed the project team to
create and adjust the project vision efficiently throughout the
