Bim for architecture
Karolinska Science Park s Weco ffns arkitekter aB
Karolinska Institute is one of Europe’s largest medical
universities and Sweden’s biggest center for medical research
and education. Situated just outside the city of Stockholm,
the character of buildings in the park has been maintained
throughout 60 years of expansion. To meet the increasing
demand for biomedical research, three seven-story buildings
are being constructed in the form of a cell.
The challenge of the project has been to master the form of
the building, in plan layout as well as small details, while still
using standard components as much as possible to keep the
expenditures down. The advanced modeling tools in
MicroStation enabled the creation of complicated surfaces
and the transformation of these using Bentley Architecture
into objects such as ceilings and roofs. In this way, the firm’s
architectural ambitions were thus supported and accurate
drawings produced.
Basel Trade Fair, Hall 1 Built in Only 1 Year theo hotz ag
Unlike exhibition centers in other European cities, the city of
Basel, Switzerland, decided not to move its convention center
to a site in the suburbs. Instead, it chose to revitalize and
extend the existing facilities with a new, demanding urbanistic
and architectural concept. With a planning and construction
schedule of just one year, Theo hotz architects designed a
total exhibition area of 36,000 square meters.
The construction consisted of a steel skeleton structure on a
gridded floor plan, which facilitated the extension deployment
of prefabrication. Bentley BIM solutions enabled efficient
distributed planning and also guaranteed interoperability
with other planners.
