Integrating Project Wise in Engineering Data Workflow aker Kvaerner
At Aker Kvaerner, the engineering environment in maintenance,
modification, and operations traditionally used separate
systems to handle the many different types of project data.
At any one time, there could be 50 to several hundred
contracts, facilities, and projects in progress. The goal of
this project was to create an information workflow through
all the different systems to facilitate data reuse .

With Project Wise deployed, the contract organizations now
have all documentation in a controlled environment. With one
source for all technical information with managed access and
a rights regime, all information is accessible globally. Some
documents and drawings are even used simultaneously in
several projects in different versions. The new system has now
been implemented in 20 contracts with seven customers that
have 26 facilities among them.
Over the course of 73 years, Carollo Engineers has successfully
completed more than 15,000 projects for public-sector clients
and is currently ranked within Engineering News-Record’s
Top 100 Design Firms. Carollo Engineers’ staff numbers more
than 750 employees, including over 300 registered engineers.
To facilitate communication, document transmittal, and
workload sharing, Carollo Engineers installed the Project Wise
Integration Server, which has made it possible for its project
teams to manage, find, and share CAD data, project data, and
Microsoft Office documents. Project Wise caching servers
installed at each local office allow files located in other offices
to be cached to provide quick local access. The ability to
have version control of documents has made it easier to find
the most current version of a document. This helps keep the
most current document active, with access to older documents
available as read-only.
