Maximizing Availability and Reducing Lifecycle Costs of a Commercial Gas-to-Liquids Plant Using AXSYS.Integrity petrosa
PetroSA is the national oil company of the Republic of South
Africa. The Operations Division operates a gas-to-liquids
manufacturing plant on a 770-hectare site that converts
natural methane-rich gas and condensates into fuels and
high-value products. The temperature extremes, acids, and
range of materials present in the plant make inspections
essential to prevent potential failures. This project’s goal was
to develop an alternative strategy to conventional time-
based, routine inspections which are often set by local
regulatory agencies and typically involve costly plant shut-
downs and intrusive procedures that can lead to hazards.
Bentley’s AXSYS.Integrity provides a risk-based methodology
whereby each item of equipment is examined in terms of its
operating environment and assessed according to its likelihood and consequence of failure. In this way, thousands of
individual plant items can be considered and inspection
actions prioritized according to risk.
