Yumsung Project in China durr Korea
Durr Korea designed an automobile production facility in
Yumsung, China, for KIA Motors of Korea. The firm previously
used AutoCAD for design, but had experienced interference
problems and errors between disciplines.

Bentley’s PlantSpace helped the firm verify design procedures
and manage interference checks in a 3D modeling environment. This enables each phase of the project and each of
the many disciplines involved to be more tightly integrated,
which reduced errors and saved time. The use of 3D modeling

improving accuracy, and saving time and money.
The Rose Unit $52 million reconstruction project in Meraux,
Louisiana, took 14 months to complete. This fast-tracked
project involved large bore thick-wall pipe, jacketed pipe,
and very high temperatures. In addition, the software used
needed to interoperate with Caesar II pipe stress analysis.
Through the use of Bentley’s interoperable AutoPLANT
solutions, the project team was introduced to 3D modeling
inexpensively and with positive results. For example, the
plant’s stress analysis duration improved by at least 50
percent, and the ability to seamlessly transfer piping in the
model to stress engineers and back again saved a lot of
man-hours. Total time saved on the project was six months,
and this translates into $20 million in additional production
that would otherwise have been lost.
