Achieving Millennium Development Goals — A Model for Transforming an Intermittent Into a 24x7 Water Supply System for Developing Countries maharashtra Jeevan pradhikaran
The purpose of this project is to develop a robust approach
to transforming intermittent water supply systems into 24x7
systems for developing countries. Typically, cities in these
countries are forced to operate their water supply systems in
an intermittent mode due to a lack of planning and funding
and the complications that result from haphazard urbanization.
The intermittent supply results in poor sanitation practices,
leads to an increase in health risks and mortality, and hampers
economic growth.
Transforming the water supply is a complex operation that
requires the creation of many data files representing the
various scenarios that can arise during the transformation
process. Bentley’s Water GEMS and Darwin Designer are
providing Maharashtra Jeevan Pradhikaran with efficient
data management, enabling the firm to quickly generate
and analyze numerous scenarios and to save up to 100
man-months in time.
Harlingen Waterworks Water Distribution Model maverick engineering, inc
The harlingen Waterworks project spanned the city of
harlingen, Texas, and included both urban and rural areas.
It involved creating a model of an existing water distribution
system with components dating back to 1940. Pipe sizes
varied from 2 inches to 24 inches, and pipe types also
varied. The project consists of 25 miles of pipe covering
43 square miles.
Bentley’s WaterCAD and WaterGEMS soft ware contributed
to both distribution system documentation and modeling for
risk analysis, power consumption minimization, and optimal
design of system expansion. The ability to use different colors
for pipe sizes and junctions made the presentation easier for
the client to understand. In addition, the software allowed
the firm to run multiple scenarios to simulate emergency
situations and determine alternate solutions that meet the
client’s requirements.
