Bim for architecture
Nacka Forum arkitekterna Krook & tjäder aB
Nacka Forum is a $140 million, 1.3 million-square-foot project
currently under construction in Nacka, Sweden. Essentially
three projects in one, it encompasses the construction of 230
residential apartments, the redevelopment of a shopping
center, including the addition of 70 retail stores, and a new
parking garage with room for 1,800 cars.

The design firm’s use of Bentley Architecture provided an
integrated workflow among all architects and engineers.
With this BIM solution, different CAD formats can be easily
integrated into the model so potential clashes are caught
early, saving time and money.
Azure Sea in Airlie Beach, Australia, was designed in two
elements. With an elongated form that matches the steep
hillscape, the larger rear block overlooks the smaller front
block, giving all residences ocean views. The stepping of
the buildings relates to the natural topography in elevation,
minimizing the impact of height on the development. Access
to the varying levels is staggered with the natural slope of
the terrain, allowing on-grade access to car parking.
The firm is using MicroStation and Bentley Architecture
because its federated data model enables project teams
to work more efficiently, and allows them to modularize
and reuse building components. It also makes interoffice
collaboration possible. The ability of MicroStation to
handle both 2D and 3D data and produce high-end
renderings eliminates the need to translate CAD data to
and from different formats.
