Jim Fisher, Kentucky
As branch manager of technical support in the
division of highway design within the Kentucky
Transportation Cabinet (KYTC), Jim Fisher has distinguished himself through a 27-year career of
implementing and advancing the use of CADD.
A 1979 architectural technology graduate from
the University of Kentucky, Fisher is co-author of
Kentucky’s custom-developed coordinate geometry software and has written numerous software
applications, including MDL applications, to
enhance the automation of the design process.
Fisher adopted Project Wise in 1999 as an enterprise solution to replace the small-workgroup document management system in place at that time.
Through the use of Project Wise, he has led the
effort for submitting electronic deliverables of
highway contract plan sets in DGN format,
enabling design teams to deliver electronic 3D
supplemental information to the construction contracting industry for use in GPS grading equipment.
As co-founder of the Highway Design User’s
Group—which was formed 15 years ago to educate highway-design users—and the technical liaison between all KYTC divisions, Fisher’s multi-dis-ciplinary work earned him the 2002 Associate of
the Year award from the Kentucky Association of
Transportation Engineers. ;
