Giprotyumenneftegaz developed project deliverables and cost estimates for the West-Salym oil
field development in Russia. It was a complex
project integrating many disciplines (process site,
industrial area, camp, and utilities). Some parts
were designed by other companies, some not
using DGN. The number of facilities under design
generated a huge volume of information, comprising about 6000 files—such as survey maps, models, drawings, explanatory notes, cost estimates,
and bills of materials—exceeding 30 gigabytes.
The application of Bentley software products to all
design phases allowed the company to generate
better deliverables, since the need to convert submitted data from one format to another on various
projects phases was eliminated and mistakes
MicroStation helped solve all the design tasks
more effectively, but the largest benefits related to
3D modeling. A 3D model of the landscape for
sites under design helped the company not only
make the site leveling exact, but also to calculate
earthworks, reducing mistakes by 30-50 percent.
A 3D model of the facility was generated through
the efforts of several teams working together.
Drawings, sections, and views were generated
from this model.
The application of PlantSpace Design Series
allowed the creation of 3D models of facilities
under design using PFD files with minimal time
and cost expenditures. ;
