MANAGED ENVIRONMENT
ProjectWise Migration
Project 2004
OG&E Electric Services
The goal of this project was to upgrade
Project Wise to a V8 environment to enhance
workflow and standardize many previously
customized routines. The project also included replacing an ad hoc DOS-based plotting
environment with Digital InterPlot for more
then seventy users of MicroStation.
Approximately one million
scanned images will be migrated into ProjectWise, bringing
the total managed storage
above 1 terabyte and more
than 1.1 million managed documents. The images will then be
available to design teams in
minutes as opposed to several
hours of searching through
archival flat files, microfiche,
and aperture cards.
The project lasted from November of 2004 to
January of 2005 and included the successful
migration of Project Wise Web Server, deployment and integration of Digital InterPlot,
upgrade of all MicroStation to V8 (and all
associated MDL applications), and upgrading
and testing of new hardware installation
(including plotting devices and driver packs),
followed by technical training of staff and
workflow consulting by Bentley.
Moving to the new Digital
InterPlot and the new version
of Web Explorer Light has
expanded the reliable distribution of managed data, while
reducing the administrative
effort and decreasing not only Oklahoma Gas
& Electric’s dependency on customization,
but also its cost of ownership. ;
MANAGED ENVIRONMENT
Document Management
System (EDMS)
PSEG Fossil LLC
The current PSEG Power drawing management system is an outdated, hard copy, manual entry system. It requires the creation,
manipulation, issuance, and storage of multiple copies of the same document (Mylar,
aperture card, TIFF image, Access database,
CAD file, and so on), making it very labor-intensive and error-prone. There is no automated process to track drawing development
and revision status.
The goal of this project was to implement
Project Wise as an engineering document management system (EDMS) through these steps:
• Migrate the existing drawing infrastructure (some 147,000 drawings) into
ProjectWise, allowing for electronic and
automated document management
• Integrate new electronic technical docu-
ments generated by ongoing power con-
struction projects
• Implement an electronic drawing process
that eliminates the need for hard copy
• Eliminate the use of the existing record
management system administered by the
regulated company (PSE&G)
• Establish a pilot project to prove the
viability of using ProjectWise for
other project-related documentation
retention and process control
With Project Wise, all users will be able
to access, checkout and checkin, and red-
line all fossil-related documents and
drawings via the thick client or the Web.
The engineering drawing workflow,
from creation through approval, has been
greatly enhanced by working in a paperless,
completely electronic environment. ;
