MANAGED ENVIRONMENT
Dubai Festival City
Dubai Festival City
has established a management structure comprising five divisions. Additionally, special-purpose companies are being established to
operate the facilities upon completion. More
than 100 consulting and contracting firms
have been hired as of March 2005, including
a number of major international firms.
A project of this magnitude generates vast
amounts of correspondence and other project
documentation. DFC selected Project Wise to
facilitate document control and management.
It is being used to manage drawings,
correspondence, and contractor submittals. ;
The project, which has a forecast cost of $5 billion, is scheduled to be completed in 2012. At
1,600 acres, it is one of the largest private
developments under construction in the world
and represents a major management task.
The project is being developed using fast-track techniques with more than 15 project
management teams working in parallel. DFC
MANAGED ENVIRONMENT
Greenwich Millennium
Village
Greenwich Millennium Village Ltd
Greenwich Millennium Village (GMV) is
being developed by Greenwich Millennium
Village Limited (GMVL). Construction started
on the 60-acre site in late 1999 and the scheduled completion date is 2011.
The GMV master plan was to deliver an integrated, high-density urban community. The
1,377 mixed-tenure homes include affordable and shared-ownership units that are
indistinguishable from the private homes.
There will be a total of 2,950 homes.
The continuing evolution of iterative design
ideas and interrelationships between the
multiple files in the project are being
handled using Project Wise. Its control of the
constituent files has saved each consultant
time issuing and distributing engineering
documentation. Uploading of the
design information during the
scheme and detailed design phases
was followed by the project manager and the QS electronically signing
off approved documents and the
compilation of trade packages for
construction. With all consultants
and contractors now looking at a
single source for information, this
has improved communication in the
design and construction process.
The managed environment also
removed ambiguity from the CAD
data. Through a holistic approach to
CAD standards and automated
entry of document names, a fully
coordinated project dataset has
been created, where the fact that
consultants use MicroStation,
AutoCAD, Vector Works, and Revit
is irrelevant. ;
