The design of the SBA Group’s new building
expresses the company’s dynamism in the
open, twisting atrium structure that supports
the entire building. Eight intertwined steel
helixes create a tower around the central atrium. The staggered upper floors are hung
from the helical structure that twists up from
the lower parking floor to the roof terrace,
providing increased floor areas higher in the
building. A four-story lobby includes a restaurant balcony and floating meeting rooms, and
offers a sweeping view of the city. Spiral
ramps within the helical structure lead the
visitor to upper and lower levels, and elevators serve the upper office floors and conference facilities at the top of the building.
At any point in the design process, the 3D
model allowed easy inspection and evalua-
tion of design solutions for esthetic and func-
tional characteristics. The client and local
authorities could be kept constantly up to
date with visualizations of the project. ;
Designing the building in 3D allowed a
greater level of sophistication, detail, and
accuracy – while enabling the design to be
completed in half the time compared with
2D drawings. The 3D model was structured
