BIM FOR SIMULATION AND VISUALIZATION: SINGLE SUBJECT
BBC W1 Development
MacCormac Jamieson Prichard
This modeling and visualization process was
made easier thanks to the array of geometry-creation tools in MicroStation and its integrated rendering features. For this level of use,
MicroStation has proved itself to be a true
multi-tool, reducing training needs and
increasing productivity from the outset.
3D visualizations have been, and continue to
be, an integral part of design presentations to
the client, providing a format that actually
informs and expedites the decision-making
process. Surface materials, finishes, and colors have been tested with varying lighting
schemes to provide a clear, client-focused
insight into how the mood of the new interior can be changed according to need. ;
The important historical context of this
development, which forms part of a
conservation area, meant that MJP has
needed to work closely with English
Heritage throughout, keeping them
informed of design development at
every stage.

Sports Complex Concept

MicroStation V8 with 3D allowed the design
team to use a smaller project team to do the
same amount of work. The 3D visuals made it
much easier to present design ideas to the
client. In addition, the software allowed the
firm to develop the project with fewer team
members. ;
The complex will also house locker and shower areas for nine sport venues, faculty and staff
offices, and other ancillary spaces. The majority of these areas are connected by a lobby/hall
that is open to two floors and contains a rock-climbing wall. Total project includes 115,000
square feet in the master plan.
The project was developed as a concept for a
complete replacement of the existing athlet-
ic facilities at a construction cost of roughly
$25,000,000. A decision to proceed with the
full replacement or the renovation of the
existing facility in concert with a separate
arena is still pending.
