Work began in November of 2004 on the
Kaiser Modesto Medical Center, designed to
provide a comprehensive range of inpatient
and outpatient healthcare services. The new
center will consist of a 225-bed hospital with
an attached 86-provider medical office building that will also house hospital support services. A second, 70-provider medical office
building will also be built.
Since the MicroStation model was so accu-
rate, Lionakis Beaumont Design Group was
able to minimize conflicts and constructabil-
ity issues early in the design stages. This
resulted in marked savings of time for
redesign, allowing more of the group’s
resources to be devoted to improved project
management. MicroStation V8 is providing it
with 3D visualization throughout the design
process, also allowing the company’s clients
to visualize the vast selections for the build-
ing’s exterior as well as the fine design
details. ;
The goal of the project was to design
a campus that blends the architecture of
three buildings into one cohesive whole.
The buildings are oriented around a plaza
that creates a public space for contemplation, a healing garden, and outdoor conferencing. The building orientation also allows
for internal pedestrian traffic between

MicroStation also allowed the creation of 2D
drawings such as area plans and elevations as
well as the 3D visualizations. The firm’s work
ranges from technical drawings to animations
for television, and working in a single application for both 2D and 3D adds considerable
efficiency while reducing costs. ;
