BIM FOR BUILDING ENGINEERING
The mission of this project was to create the
infrastructure for a new research facility
without interfering with the ongoing work of
laboratories. Building information modeling
was essential to manage the architectural
design and production process efficiently.
The design schedule was very tight, and
Bentley software visualization functions were
used to communicate effectively with the
client to include its requirements and meet
the schedule. Also, virtual simulation and real-time cost simulation allowed flexible and
rapid confirmation of the exterior design.
MicroStation TriForma was extremely useful
in creating objects containing multiple components and extracting detail quantities
using the formula in each component.
Multiple reference files had to be merged to
create quantity survey reports and extract
drawings. In one case, a structure of more
than 600 reference files was managed quickly, resulting in substantial savings.
The modeling efforts that formerly took eight
months now only take two months with BIM.
Also, the time required to create and modify
drawings was dramatically reduced with
BIM, and the accurate models helped avoid
duplication of work by designers and
BIM improved the project workflow and
contributed to reduced workloads for designers.
