STUDENT COMPETITION: SPECIAL AWARD FOR INDUCSTRIAL DESIGN
The Design of a
Phone Booth
G.M. Cantacuzino
The goal of this design project is the creation
of a phone booth with an innovative look and
a great deal of functionality. The main idea is to
provide transparency while still offering the
privacy needed in a multimedia conversation.
The design of the interior support for the
multimedia console features an organic
shape that suggests protection as well as the
dynamic world of communications. The
shape was also meant to balance the use of
metal and glass. The side metal panels ensure
privacy, but permit a certain transparency
due to the use of punched stainless steel.
Inside the booth I created a certain functionality by placing shelves for small objects. In
addition, I created enough room to allow persons with special needs to use the multimedia console.
For the final rendering I used MicroStation
TriForma’s radiosity feature, and tried to save
rendering time by using textures instead of modeling the individual punches in the material. ;
