Transitioning from
AutoCAD 2000 to Bentley’s
“You Deserve Better”
Upgrade Program
Signum n.v.
In explaining the key reasons for choosing
Bentley’s upgrade program, Donald DeSmet, an
architect/engineer at Signum, explains, “We
decided to go with MicroStation to replace our
AutoCAD because we wanted a vendor that
would provide us with free viewers so that we
can easily access and exchange project data. In
addition, we wanted an easy transition to the
new software, one that provides AutoCAD features – such as AutoCAD commands and DWG
workspaces – integrated into the products.” ;
Signum recently joined Bentley’s “You
Deserve Better” upgrade program, aimed at
helping AutoCAD users whose software was
forcibly retired by Autodesk. Signum, which
employs 10 architect/engineers, has selected
MicroStation to replace its AutoCAD
2000 software.

The Musselwhite
Farm House
Taylor Dawson & Associates
Architecture
The Musselwhite Farm House is part of a
recreational farm complex located in west
Alabama. The complex consists of a five-bedroom manor house, a 10-stall stable with
four bedrooms upstairs, a cook house, and
a greenhouse.
The objective was to design an environment
that the Musselwhite family can enjoy for
generations. The design had to function well,
fit in aesthetically with the surrounding environment, and have a contemporary edge. The
goal was an Alabama farmhouse for the 21st
Century – a complex structure that appeared
to be very simple.
To achieve this goal, the design had to be
accurate and well-coordinated. MicroStation
allowed for complete accuracy in a fluid
design process. This is important if all of the
different conditions, components, and transitions of the house are to fit together in a
seamless and cleanly resolved way. ;
