BIM FOR ARCHITECTURE: PRIVATE BUILDING
Washington Mutual Tower
NBBJ
The project consists of a 42-story high-rise
corporate headquarters for Washington
Mutual Bank. The 900,000-square-foot building
consolidates the operations of the bank in a
structure that accommodates the organizational needs of the institution and symbolizes
both the strength and dynamic qualities of
this premier retailer of financial services. The
project also includes a 300,000-square-foot
expansion of the Seattle Art Museum and
redefines the skyline with a blending of
finance and art.
The project team was able to use the 3D
building model generated using Bentley soft-
ware for design exploration with high-quality
visual feedback for the design team and the
client, as well as to reuse the model data
throughout all architectural project phases
for 2D document generation. In the design
phases, the team was able to make big
changes to the building and its skin very
quickly while keeping plans, sections, and
elevations up to date at any point in time. It
collected pages and pages of ideas modeled
and rendered in TriForma. The model was
maintained through the construction
document phase and allowed integration of
3D views into the documents. ;
BIM FOR ARCHITECTURE: PRIVATE BUILDING
Project Larnaca
RHWL Architects
To manage resources efficiently, RHWL based
its design proposal on a 3D model. Plans, sections, and elevations were created from slicing through the 3D model. The competition
entry also included high-resolution renderings, as well as a physical model built in less
than 24 hours using templates taken from the
3D model. ;
